Summary/Objective

KMS Solutions is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Signatures Department at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) through the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for providing support services for submarine and surface ship signature trials through assessment of current measurement systems and procedures. Candidates with strong communication skills, experience in systems engineering, and electronics work are highly desired.

Essential Functions

Provide life cycle support for acoustic monitoring systems aboard United States Navy submarines.

Tasks: Respond to fleet problems; troubleshoot hardware, software, and sensor problems; update/modify documentation and training; groom systems and sensors; test systems and components; evaluate/analyze system performance; perform minor installations; and interface with fleet users.

Support system modernization and upgrade development, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting efforts.

Develop, review, and update system level documentation, drawings and electronics schematics.

Provide hands-on electronics support as part of prototyping and testing efforts including building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying developmental and production electronic components, parts, cables, equipment, and systems.

Required Education and Experience (for Entry level positions):

Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance.

Bachelor’s Degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math field.

Five (5) years of system engineering experience.

Three (3) years of experience providing research, development, and testing support for electronics systems in lab environments including:

Experience using multimeters, digital signal analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and similar electronic testing equipment.

Electronics skills including soldering, interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, electrical troubleshooting, cable assembly, and factory acceptance testing.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience (for Journeyman positions):

Secret DoD clearance.

Ten (10) years of system engineering experience, specifically with undersea warfare systems.

Navy experience with a sonar or acoustics background.

Familiarity in the fields of acoustic and non-acoustic signature control and reduction.

Required Competencies:

Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Proven experience multi-tasking and delivering high quality work on schedule

Preferred Competencies:

Experience communicating and interacting with all levels of customers and company leadership.

Ability to work independently.

Strong record of electronics and system troubleshooting skills.

This job operates in a professional office or laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. This role also utilizes the installation and maintenance of computer servers and networking equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Excellent listening skills are essential. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. Attendance at prescheduled mandatory meetings is required. Must be available during the core work hours as determined by your contract/location and must account for the required number of hours in a pay period to maintain Full-time status.

Telework:

This position does not allow for telework.

Travel:

Ability to travel CONUS; potential to travel OCONUS

Travel up to 10% may be required.
