Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
The Radiological Engineering Department is looking for a high performing individual who can effectively work with senior leadership, peers, and subordinates as the Radiological Engineering Department Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, mentoring, and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing growth opportunities.
Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
Manage the Radiological Engineering Department within the Radiological Control Division.
Prepare and manage annual budget, expenditures, forecasts, payroll approvals and shortfalls for the department.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshop, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies (e.g. HPS).
Assign, coordinate, and provide technical direction for all Radiological Engineering projects and programs.
Provide leadership and direction to achieve long-term improvements for the scope and function of the department and division.
Provide advanced and wide-ranging technical, operational, and regulatory guidance on the company’s radiological protection issues.
Oversee complex innovative assessments, calculations, and/or monitoring to determine the proper radiological controls necessary to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards, while considering the economic impacts.
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for radiation protection procedures that require complex and advanced radiological calculations, calibrations, data reviews, regulatory reviews, and assessments.
Author and review technical and non-technical reports, including procedures, plans and assessments.
Maintain quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards; analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems; identifying trends; recommending system improvements.
Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
Perform other duties assigned by the Radiological Control Manager.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 11 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
Active Certified Health Physicist (desired) or actively seeking certification.
Advanced degree in health physics related field is preferred.
Must have experience with operational health physics and radiological controls.
Must have experience managing a team of professionals and handling personnel conflict.
Must possess effective oral and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to write and review technical reports.
Must possess planning and organizing skills and ability to take initiative.
Must be able to employ independent judgment and apply professional knowledge to ensure that assignments are completed efficiently, accurately, and on time. Must possess interpersonal communication skills to deal with contacts in an effective, positive, and professional manner.
Must possess mathematical skill and ability to understand complex data, terminology, procedures, laws, and regulations.
Must have experience in software programs such as Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must be capable of performing moderate lifting.
The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change). May be requested to perform on-call duty and must be able to work nonstandard hours.
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707 14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is:$121,326.40 – $194,126.40.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
