MITRE’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program Division seeks a MITRE staff member with a passion for radar systems engineering. MITRE N262 MDA Sensors and C4ISR Department provides technical expertise to MITRE’s MDA Program across the Ground Sensors domains.
As an experienced systems engineer, mechanical, or electrical engineer, you will apply engineering principles and expertise to bring technical solutions to bear on the government’s toughest challenges in the acquisition, design, testing, integration, verification, and fielding of ground radar capabilities.
The job is a Principal Step, Full-Time, Huntsville, AL-based in-person position; this work location is required to effectively foster staff and government sponsor relationships and shape the direct work program.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Develop sensors system technical and programmatic requirements and recommendations that consider risk, extensibility, and affordability
Develop and implement systems engineering plans for prototyping and assessing future radar concepts
Work with Missile Defense Weapon Systems Engineering to develop functional, performance and interoperability requirements for radar capabilities added to operational baselines
Coordinate technical radar systems, software, and hardware development and capability updates throughout the product office integrated product teams and with external stakeholders, across multiple end users
Assess performance of radar systems, software, and hardware engineering through testing, integration, and studies to inform program management decisions
Technical acquisition recommendations to the government program management, contractual statement of work (SOW) development, inform technical contract evaluation, and contract negotiation technical expertise
Have willingness to work as part of a government integrated product team environment partnering technical outcomes across multiple stakeholders and organizations
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical or systems engineering, or similar technical degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances. This position requires an active TOP SECRET clearance.
12+ years of experience in applying expert experience level to developing and evolving weapon systems, sensors or radar technical capabilities and defense programs through the practical application of physics-based engineering, technical assessment, and/or systems engineering best practices
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in technical leadership and strategy/issue resolution development to complex weapon systems and sensor challenges
Experience in Missile Defense Agency systems and programs
Master’s Degree in engineering or similar field and with at least 12 years of experience
Technical expertise in a relevant sensor or radar engineering domain
Known as a team player, ability to work independently with a team environment with loosely defined objectives
Recognized as a thought leader and one who dynamically and proactively executes leadership and consensus decisions
Active TOP SECRET or higher DoD Clearance
