Two positions are open to applications from Colorado residents and non-residents.

Salary Range: $18.66 – $25.00 depending upon qualifications

These internships are paid temporary part-time up to full-time positions (minimum 24 hours/week).

These positions do not provide benefits however, CDOT offers all Interns (temporary employees) paid sick leave . Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at forty-eight 48 hours.

Temporary positions will exist for 9 months or less.

Description of Job

Multimodal intern positions will support the Multimodal Planning Branch of the Division of Transportation Development (DTD) at CDOT. These positions will participate in the development of materials that help implement ongoing planning projects of the CDOT Multimodal Planning Branch including but not limited to, Statewide and Regional Planning and public outreach activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for the Multimodal Interns include the following but not limited to:

Assist in documenting duties, tasks and responsibilities of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) Manager position and create working procedures for the position. The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is a federally required, fiscally constrained, four-year program of planned transportation projects. The current STIP will cover FY 2026 – FY 2029.

Assist in the development of procedures and guidelines for updating and amending the CDOT 10-Year Vision Plan. CDOT’s 10-Year Vision Plan provides a statewide list of priority transportation projects for the 10-Year planning horizon, compiled through expansive and inclusive planning and outreach efforts. The 10-Year Vision Plan update is planned for FY 2027.

Assist with management of large datasets/tables with various software and platforms for the STIP and 10-Year Vision Plan.

Perform research on state-of-the-practice data analysis for transportation policy, public engagement, technology and economic activities and develop methodologies for implementation;

Create materials such as maps, charts, diagrams, fact sheets, illustrations, handouts, website graphics, reports, and slide decks that make planning concepts resonate with non-technical audiences;

Develop communication tools of the results from data analysis to a wide variety of audiences;

Support planning work as needed for the following branches: DTD Multimodal Planning, Freight Mobility and Safety, Innovative Mobility Office and the DTD Asset Management;

Develop materials and participate in activities to support implementation of the 2045 Statewide Transportation Plan and development of the 2050 Statewide Transportation Plan;

Support analysis of bicycle & pedestrian, freight and other multimodal transportation infrastructure as needed across the state using inventory data and GIS skillsets;

Assist in statewide and regional public outreach and communications projects, including the Statewide Transportation Advisory Committee (STAC) and other transportation planning partner and advisory committee meetings with Transportation Planning Regions (TPRs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs);

Conduct statistical and geospatial analysis of transportation, demographic, economic, and other datasets as needed;

Participate in special projects and miscellaneous tasks as needed to support the activities of the DTD, including clerical and organizational tasks;

Utilize the following: Google Suite/Google App, Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Work Environment:

This position is based at CDOT’s Statewide Headquarters

Expected work schedule is between Monday and Friday

It is anticipated that this role will work a minimum of 24 hours per week

Qualified candidates must be:

Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in the following: Business Administration, Finance, Communications, Data Management, Planning (financial, regional, transportation or urban), Political Science, Public Administration or a closely related field. (A copy of your transcript must be attached to your online application. See below)

OR

A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in Business Administration, Finance, Communications, Data Management Planning (financial, regional, transportation or urban), Political Science, Public Administration or a closely related field within three calendar years. (A copy of your transcript must be attached to your online application. See below)

OR

A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Program.
