The Role
Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
This position will be in a diverse I&C team and will be involved in the development of the next generation submarine propulsion plant. The incumbent candidate will be working with Senior Engineers in the instrumentation and control of propulsion plant such as: systems control hardware architecture, generators and protection systems, and motors, motor drives, valves, and field sensors. The candidate will work in a group and take on challenging technical projects under an overall technical lead.
Must Have
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
Experience with instrumentation and control system and/or any roles of designing/analyzing, testing, and implementing of control systems
Experience working on technical projects
Good written and verbal communication skills
Exposure to one or more of the following:
Industry standards regarding design and verification of automation
Using software (MATLAB/Simulink, LabView, etc…) to develop model based system engineer and systems simulation
Program Logics Controllers (PLC), Distribution Control Systems (DCS)
Network communication topology (Ethernet switches, Serial digital, and third party data link protocols)
Human Machine Interface (Remote and local control panels)
Basic understand of cyber security industrial standard for implementing in the control systems
