Principal Engineer – Software Engineering (Hybrid)

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA

The Collins Aerospace, Virtual Avionics Engineering (VAE) team in Cedar Rapids, IA is expanding due to increased demand for simulation training software that is derived from real-time aircraft operational flight programs and extended with ARINC-610 simulation standards and customer driven requirements.  The retargeted simulation software models aircraft systems from low level data bus flows to high level peer to peer subsystem communication and is built on top of proprietary graphics drawing libraries and runtime executives.  Resulting in high fidelity solutions that are optimized to range in use from Windows Desktop to Virtual Reality to certified Full-Flight Simulator applications.

We are looking for motivated individuals with a keen desire to create innovative solutions and contribute with reasonable oversight and sound judgement while mentoring peers.  This is fast-paced development that requires ownership, attention to detail, and teamwork skills that contribute to a positive and productive work environment.  Development methodology is a hybrid of Spiral development and Agile planning and execution. The VAE team also builds lower level training devices by integrating our rehosted avionics software with Collins proprietary simulation environments and COTS equipment, see following links for examples:
