Job Description: Pratt & Whitney’s Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering module is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated Structures Engineering Manager. Structures Engineering team analyzes, researches, and develops structural engineering specifications for product design that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight. Builds structural analysis models to ensure designs meet structural design criteria margins for damage tolerance, durability, strength allowables and control of structural vibration. Designs, develops, and tests structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.The Structure Engineering Manager is an integral part of the MSEN leadership team and serves as the supervisor for a team of structure engineers. In this dynamic and high visibility position you would be responsible for the structural analysis of both Externals and Mechanical systems hardware through preliminary & detailed design, validation, certification, and support of manufacturing and operational service. Additional expectations in this role required: Manages a team of primarily intermediate or experienced structure engineering professionals. Sets priorities, allocates tasks, and supervises staff to meet project targets, budgets, and milestones. Coach, train and develop the technical proficiency of structures engineers. Identifies and reacts to project problems, recommends solutions, plans projects, allocate resources, conducts project meetings, and prepares reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team. Effectively lead the structures engineering team to meet program demands. Provide structures support for PCIR, sustainment, validation testing, production and engineering investigations. Ensure support for multi-discipline teams to provide solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight. Acts as a point of contact with the CIPT and customers and develops understanding on customer needs to meet demands. Works collaboratively with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and supporting teams to solve technical issues. Ensure proper documentation and communication of results to management and external customers. Implements CORE Operating system and drive process improvements. Explains policies, practices, and procedures.
Basic Qualifications: BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Civil Engineering and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience. Structural engineering experience including FE and classical methods for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance. Familiarity with P&W Structures tools and procedures. Demonstrated experience leading teams in the successful execution of tasks to meet technical, schedule and budget requirements. Able to work across functions, organizations, and all levels of management. English fluency (verbal and written). U.S. citizenship required due to government contracts. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency with MS Office, Project Management, ANSYS or other finite element tools Mechanical Systems and External Hardware knowledge Strong analytical, problem solving and trending skills Outstanding written and verbal communication skills In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work.
