What You Will Do
The Theoretical Division is seeking a strong candidate who is interested in theoretical and computational atomic and molecular physics research. The candidate will work with scientists in Theoretical Division on topics related to molecular opacity and electron molecule scattering calculations. The candidate is expected to investigate the literature and perform extensive numerical calculations using LANL’s supercomputers. The candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in the Theoretical Division and across the Laboratory. The Theoretical Division is an organization that has multiple disciplines on a large range of scientific topics and contribute to LANL missions significantly.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Experience with super-computing and large-scale calculations.
Experience with quantum chemistry programs and multi-reference methods
Education and Experience:
BS Degree (or soon to be awarded) from an accredited program in physics, or related field.
Desired Qualifications:
Education and experience in atomic and molecular physics.
Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
