(2) Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed three (3) years in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Infrasound Laboratory (ISLA) located in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,283 – $6,000/Mon.

DUTIES:

Provides technical support for permanent and portable infrasound field monitoring stations in the Pacific and elsewhere. Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) by carrying out research, design, installation, operation, and field maintenance of systems associated with recording stations. Responsible for data analysis support and data quality assessment. Assists the PI with research, programming, data analysis, interpretation, writing of papers, presentation of results, planning of future projects, and maintaining computers and databases used by laboratory staff. The work environment will vary between office and field conditions, with possible frequent travel to remote sites.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Bachelors Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Physics, Geophysics, Engineering Sciences, Applied Science, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Cybersecurity, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Three to five (3-5) years of experience in digital signal processing and waveform analysis. Experience must include at least two (2) years of related experience in industry, military, or academic work requiring extensive knowledge of standard guides, precedents, methods and techniques for field data acquisition systems; and at least one (1) year of experience in infrasound data collection and analysis.

KNOWLEDGE

Expertise in digital communication, telemetry, photovoltaic power systems, electronic design and repair, digital signal processing and a working knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of other branches of engineering. Knowledge of time series and spectral analysis, digital signal processing, array processing, and automatic signal classification algorithms. Working knowledge of Linux OS, Mac OS, and Windows OS. Familiarity with iOS and Android OS. Familiarity with geospatial mapping methods.

ABILITIES and SKILLS

Ability to perform independent scientific research and to present results in papers and presentations. Expertise in real-time acquisition, processing, and archiving of digital waveform and image data. Proficiency with waveform analysis software and image processing tools. Ability to help administer and maintain computer and network systems. Ability to program in two (2) or more of the following languages: Python, Java, php, or C and its variants. Must be a U.S. Citizen due to government requirements. Must possess a valid drivers license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal drivers insurance equivalent to Hawaiis No-Fault Drivers Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Must be able to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle with manual transmission.

Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance to access work facilities. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
