Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

The MSTS Calibration Lab has an opening for a highly skilled Calibration Technician (Senior Technologist) performing work in support of the Nevada National Security Site at the North Las Vegas facility.

Key Responsibilities

Perform physical-dimensional-calibrations, calculates and records critical parameters in the certification of measuring and test equipment (M&TE).

This position also maintains the accuracy and proper functioning of the M&TE.

Perform sequence of testing by following calibration procedures for M&TE.

Maintain equipment data base files for measuring and test equipment requiring calibration including the collection, completion and filing of data and information related to routine and specific procedures and tests performed.

Maintain and updates the calibration system database using approved policies and procedures.

Follow procedures for set up of standards and specialized laboratory equipment to test, evaluate and calibrate other measuring and test equipment.

Disassemble measuring and test equipment to inspect components for defect. Aligns, repairs and replaces component parts and circuitry.

Devise and use formulas to solve problems in measurement and calibration.

Work under general supervision with limited technical direction provided as necessary.

Execute work in a disciplined manner according to company policies and procedures, performing calibrations across various disciplines such as Physical, Dimensional, Pressure, Force, Mass, using nationally recognized methods, ensuring measurements are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), or other nationally acceptable methods and practices.

Use working, transfer, and reference standards to calibrate M&TE.

Perform work of moderate complexity independently and makes recommendations on issues and problem solutions.

Ensure calibrations are performed using national consensus standards that provided documentation of calibration traceability to NIST. Identifies areas needing improvement and provides recommended solutions.

Develop calibration techniques, approaches, set-ups, calibration methodologies.

Independent work is reviewed for technical judgment, accuracy and completeness.

Participate in the development of calibration specifications and automated calibration procedures, obtains calibration supplier bids for award of purchases of M&TE and calibration services.

Frequently coordinates work with peers, colleagues, customers, and vendors to plan and complete calibration tasks.

Provide direction to lesser experienced calibration laboratory personnel and monitors their work performance.

Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Qualifications

Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 5 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 7 years’ progressive related experience.

American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Calibration Technician (CCT), or equivalent, credentials is highly desirable.

Experience with implementation of ISO 17025, “General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories,” is also desirable.

Able to use working, transfer, and reference standards to calibrate M&TE.

The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change) may be altered based on project need.

Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707 14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is: $68,494.40 – $102,752.00.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
