Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer – Regional Apps Software System Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position, located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.

C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier globally and regionally. Networks integrate and synchronize autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The ideal candidate would possess a hybrid skill set combining both Systems Engineering and Software Development expertise. This candidate could either be a Systems Engineer who has a background in Software Development, demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in developing software systems. Alternatively, a Software Engineer with experience in Systems Engineering and a keen interest in supporting the Systems Engineering for the Software Development Team would be an excellent fit.

This unique mix of skills and interests is essential for effectively contributing to the development and maintenance of software systems within a Systems Engineering context.

Essential Functions:

As a Software Systems Engineer on the C2BMC program, your focal tasks will revolve around developing software products for your Scrum Team. These include:

Analyzing and providing technical support for system software

Resolving complex issues

Designing, developing, testing, integrating, and offering user support for the software products

You will be responsible for:

Debugging and configuring related software products

Working on operating system applications based on specifications

Collaborating with the SEIT team to convert system requirements into software-level requirements

Contributing to proposal creation, driving system use cases, conops, sequences, and updating system external interfaces

Additionally, you will be engaged in software design activities such as:

developing use cases

sequences

algorithm design documents

functional design document

Will participate in large multi-site software development efforts, external interface development, conducting or leading Analysis of Alternatives, Trade Studies, Design Evaluations, and designing command and control and/or weapon systems

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Computer Science, System Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline) from an accredited university with 5 years of experience, or a STEM Master’s degree in a related discipline with 3 years of experience (preferred), or a PhD in a related discipline with 1 year of experience

Applicants must possess a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application

DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA Security) is required

Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs

In-depth understanding of systems engineering processes and principles

Proven track record of applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions

Proficiency in developing systems engineering artifacts such as Specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, and Trade Studies

Experience in developing large, complex systems and software applications

Familiarity with common software development and management tools like Git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven or Gradle, and Eclipse

Software development experience on Unix/Linux and Windows platforms

Experience in software integration testing, including developing automated test scripts

Proficiency in performance modeling, building management tools, and pipelines

Experience working within an Agile development environment and domain experience in Space and Missile Defense

Knowledge of Systems Analysis, Model-Based System Engineering, Architecture development, Virtualization, Containerization, and Cloud Computing principles

Understanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering is highly preferred

Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification

Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional – Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP – MBF)

Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks are highly desired

Prior C2BMC experience

Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and MBSE tools is highly desired

Automated test and pipeline development experience is desired

Salary Range: $105,400.00 – $158,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
